This Workshop focuses on THREE USE CASES where you will be exposed to experiment the migration of Web Applications, Batch Processes, and Backend Processing Pipeline to the AWS cloud. You will understand the functional capabilities of these on AWS after migration.

These USE CASES are intended to provide some insight into how to migrate to AWS in the real world. The session will be conducted by Industry practitioners, who will train you to leverage AWS services to make the AWS infrastructure scalable, reliable, and highly available.

Amazon Web Services (AWS) is the cloud computing platform by Amazon.com. AWS as a service aims towards providing large computing capacity more quickly and in an affordable way. Migrating IT environments to the Cloud has become a necessity for many businesses to stay competitive in their industries.

The system requirements include Minimum 4 GB RAM, i3 processor or above, 20 GB HDD.

For executing the practicals you will be working on the cloud servers and various other services that Amazon provides. You can create a Free Tier account on AWS which will give you an access to all the AWS services. The step-wise guide for accessing these services will be available in the LMS and Certhippo's support team will assist you.

Synopsis: Company A has a customer-facing web application, which serves as a marketing portal and a customer management system. Customers, partners and employees use the web application to collaborate with each other using a rich web interface that can be viewed in a standard internet browser. As new product announcements are made, marketing campaigns generate substantial amounts of traffic to the site resulting in periodic spikes. Outside of the time-frames caused by these spikes, Company A experiences a steady and predictable traffic load, which is characteristically high on weekdays and low on weekends.

Company A would like to move the Web Applications to the Cloud environment for three main reasons:

·         The company wishes to scale out the Web Application, and address the growing traffic, without investing in new hardware

·         They would like to cut down administration costs by automating deployments

·         Finally, the company would like to expand and provision extra capacity only when it’s needed, for example, when running marketing campaigns

Synopsis : CompanyB, a publishing company leverages a Digital Asset Management System (DAM) to manage digital assets such as documents and other types of media files. The DAM System is an end-to-end digital supply chain that processes, encodes, catalogs, stores and manages digital assets, distributes these assets to creative groups within various departments of the company and publishes them after encoding in different formats for different devices.

Each night, a batch process pumps in approximately 300 jobs to the processing pipeline, each taking an average of 1 hour on a single server to process. The system cannot scale more than 300 jobs a night due to the limited server capacity. The company was desperately looking to reduce the transit time through the pipeline (publish digital content more quickly) and focus on expanding its offering to new channels such as Web and mobile publishing.

CompanyB needed a solution that would enable them to:

·         Scale the batch processing system without having to incur the capital expenditure of buying new hardware and hiring additional personnel to physically manage the servers

·         Improve automation

·         Provide maintenance of the equipment

Synopsis :CompanyC is an automobile insurance claim processing company, with an external-facing website from which claims are received and processed. A backend processing pipeline processes the claims by connecting to a complex workflow of third party services, legacy systems, content management systems (CMS), and reporting databases. The company maintains an internal back-office portal (Intranet) for Adjusters and Supervisors to manage the end-to-end workflow of processing claims.

CompanyC needed a solution that would enable them to:

·         Reduce its IT infrastructure investment and cut costs by lowering the total cost of ownership

·         Scale on-demand servers without having to provision for peak capacity due to the sunk costs associated with purchasing additional servers upfront

·         Implement a low-cost highly reliable Disaster Recovery Solution for its mission-critical claim processing infrastructure by using “Availability Zone” feature of EC2

The company was slightly skeptical of moving their mission critical claims processing system all at once into the cloud, and decided to first leverage the business continuity benefits of the cloud, and then migrate the entire infrastructure into the cloud.
